November 2009 Meeting

Diane showed us 2 techniques to add to our techniques album. The first one was how to make our own alcohol inks by using Stampin' Up re-inkers and rubbing alcohol. The other technique was how to emboss on fun foam using rubber stamps.
Alcohol Inks are the new "hot" items that could pinch your budget if you decide to invest in them. Using your existing re-inkers you can mimic them by dipping a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and dropping a few drops from the re-inkers on it. Three coordinating colors work best. Using glossy paper (glossy photo paper does not work, trust me on this) add a few drops of metallic ink to the paper then dab and swirl the prepared cotton ball on top of it. Because the metallic ink does not dry, a heat gun is needed to finish the job. These papers can be used as background paper or go ahead and stamp right on the paper and cut out your image. Stunning!

For the fun foam, use your heat gun to warm the foam enough to start curling it then quickly press your rubber stamp on to it. Lift and see the impression it made. Trim and embellish a card or scrapbook page.

Here are the Thanksgiving card swaps.

Our December meeting is a week early, December 12.

Pre-November meeting

Here is a note from Diane,
"Thought I would give you a heads up on what techniques we will be doing for our crop on Nov. 21st.
First, we will be doing "POLISHED STONE". I'm soo excited about this technique. As some of you may know, Lori, Lynn, Gesile and I went to a class at ScrapFest to learn how to use "Alcohol Inks". I just LOVE the effect of these inks, HOWEVER, I just didn't want (and can't afford) to invest in all NEW re-inkers. (And there are soooo many of them.) So, after lots and lots of researching the Stampin' Up! site, I finally found out how to use Stampin' Up! re-inkers and get the SAME effect. It is used, of course, on non-porous surfaces, such as glossy cardstock, metal, glass, mirrors, ghost letters and the list goes on and on. AND if the right colors are used, it looks just like marble with the veins and all. I have been playing with this all weekend and I just love the color combos. And it's so fun to play with!!!
We will be using the following:
1) Stampin' Up! Re-Inkers - (I don't know how other brands work) I will have a list of different color-combos to give you at the crop.
2)Encore Metallic Re-Inkers - Again, I don't know how other brands work. Encore is a S/U product.
3) Glossy cardstock - (non-porous)
4) Rubbing Alcohol
5) Cotton Balls
6) Clip - to hold cotton balls (i.e. alligator clips)
7) FINE mist spray bottle
8) Your regular scrapbook supplies

The next technique will be "FUN FOAM" . This is so much fun to play with. And all you need is two or three different color foam sheets, a "line-art" stamp set, and a heat tool.
These two techniques should only take about an hour and the rest of the day we can just "PLAY". So bring something that you are working on. Maybe your Christmas Cards, or scrapbook layouts, etc.
Looking forward to seeing ALL of you. If you have ANY questions, please call or email
Until then -
Happy Stamping
Diane"
